The Great Plains

This is just like television, only you can see much further.

We didn’t meet Marshal Matt Dillon. But we did meet Leon.

During our drive from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Dodge City, Kansas we gained a better appreciation for The Great Plains. Mostly a lot of flat ground. I mean, a lotta flat ground.

We saw cattle …

And more cattle …

And windmills …

We took a quick break as we crossed the border into Kansas …

And we saw lots of nothingness …

And when we arrived in Dodge City …

… we saw more cattle.

While photographing this herd of cattle, a nice young gentleman pulled up in his truck to strike up a conversation. He quickly took a liking to Lisa who then put him through the ringer.

Leon used to be in the agricultural lending business and after retirement found himself deep in the business of raising cattle. Leon was super helpful in filling in the blanks regarding our trip to Oklahoma National Stockyards.

We learned all about cattle from weaning to stockers to auction to feeding to ... well, you know how it ends. We learned about feed and nutrients. We learned about cuts and beef blends. And we learned quite a bit about his grandkids.

Leon - thank you for giving a curious couple a view into how things are made.
